FEES & FAQS

1. How do I know if I need therapy?

Therapy can be helpful if you're experiencing emotional distress, struggling with relationships, feeling stuck in patterns, or simply wanting to understand yourself better. Many people come to therapy during times of overwhelm, transition, stress, or when they notice something feels off—even if they can't quite name what it is. If you're curious about whether therapy might help, reaching out for a free 20-minute consultation is a good first step.

2. How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the issues you're working with, and your preferences. Some people benefit from focused short-term therapy to address a specific concern, while others find that longer-term work allows for deeper exploration and transformation of underlying patterns. We'll discuss your timeline and goals in our first sessions and can adjust the pace as needed. I find it helpful to periodically revisit our original goals to see how we're progressing.

3. What is your fee?

My fee for a 50-minute individual therapy session is $225. I am an out-of-network provider and can provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Sliding scale may be available—please contact me to discuss options. You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE), which outlines the estimated cost of services before we begin our work together.

4. Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. Most insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits for mental health services. I recommend contacting your insurance company directly to ask about your coverage. When you call, you can reference these codes: 90791 (diagnostic evaluation) or 90834 or 90837 (individual therapy). I will provide you with a superbill that contains all the information you need to submit for reimbursement.

5. Is therapy conducted in person or through telehealth?

I offer therapy through secure video telehealth. Sessions are conducted online and available to residents of New York, New Mexico, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Maine. I'm available for appointments during business hours, Tuesday through Friday, with some evening hours also available.

6. Do you prescribe medication?

No, I do not prescribe medication. If you believe medication might be helpful for you, I can provide referrals to a psychiatrist or other prescribing provider. I have experience working in mental health treatment teams and am happy to collaborate with your prescribing provider with your signed consent.

7. What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours' notice for cancellations of scheduled appointments. If you cancel within the 24-hour window, you are responsible for the full session fee. If we are able to reschedule our session in the same calendar week, there will be no cancellation fee; I will make a good faith effort to reschedule whenever possible.

8. How do I get started?

To get started, you can call me at 646-576-7370 or email me at emily@dremilyday.com. I offer a free 20-minute consultation so we can discuss your concerns and see if working together feels like a good fit. From there, we can schedule your first session if you'd like to move forward.
